A little about me.

A little about me.

My name is Erin. This year I was put into a digital animation class. I actually asked for medical interventions, but due to the fact that that class no longer exists, I was put in the next class I asked for. So here I am making a blog for all my future projects. Despite this class not being my first choice, I am really looking forward to what I’ll be learning this year. I plan to use the skills I learn in this class for my own personal use. For example, making gifs of my OTP, making mini animated clips of things I like, etc., etc. I do have a tumblr and my teacher did offer the option of posting my projects on tumblr, but that would be really weird. I don’t think my tumblr would be appropriate for things like school projects and class work. Thank you for reading.

Coming soon! Draw my story

This project is based on the “Draw My Life” project and it entails a story of our choosing, whether it be a movie, book, or a series. I chose to do my project on the Naruto Series, specifically because I grew up watching and reading this story and it has impacted my life the most. I’ve been following the story since I was in 4th grade and it has made me who I am today. I like to think I grew up with the characters. This project was pretty difficult, only because I wanted to put the best effort that I could in the artwork and details, so it took me longer than expected. However, it turned out a whole lot better than expected as well! I’m making mine kind of like a movie trailer to persuade people into watching the series and because it is an on-going series so I can’t really summarize it from beginning to end. The story wouldn’t have justice if I were to summarize it, so here’s a trailer instead!

Draw My Life

This project require a lot of time. We were introduced to the premier program, which is pretty simple and easy to use. It also has many features, which makes it a very convenient program to have. We also recorded our voice and put it into our video as narration, which was a first. I thought my voice sounded funny, but never mind that. I thought this project was very fun especially since the “Draw My Life” trend was on the rise a year back.

Stop Motion Group Project

This project proved to be a bit of a challenge when editing, but the process was pretty simple and fun. I was a bit dubious when we were put in groups but it was pretty fun. I think adding in sound was also a huge challenge because I couldn’t find what I wanted to add in, so I decided to just add in some music. I did add a few effects in Flash Pro and everything was put together in Premier. We encountered some technical difficulties with garage band and we ended up adding everything together in premier. I was the editor of the project; and it was actually the hardest part of the whole process. It wasn’t hard because of the technicalities, it was more hard because of how long and tedious the process was. None the less, I had a lot of fun and learned a lot from this experience!

Pantomime

This project took around 1 and a half weeks. This is an incomplete work, so far. I think this project was very fun, especially because we had a little more freedom to do what we wanted than we usually would on a project. We were originally supposed to animate a sack, but that was optional. I think this project was pretty difficult, especially because it took so long and drawing each frame became tedious. We were able to bring an inanimate object to life and make it move according to it properties.

Sack Drop

This project was similar to the brick drop and the leaf drop, except it allowed us to explore a different element. The weight and shift of the bag would differ from that of a brick or a leaf. This project helped us to improve our attention to detail on the different effects of pace, material, and weight. This project wasn’t difficult overall, but the one week time limit was about enough time to get a decent animation done.

Leaf Drop

This project tested our use of gravity in our animations; Instead of dropping straight down, like our brick drop, the leaf drop took more time because the leaf would float back and forth while descending slowly. This project also tested our consistency techniques because we had to make sure the leaf stayed the same size and same type the entire drop. The most difficult part of this project was transforming the leaf with every loop, flip, and turn it made; making the animation look as natural as possible was also very difficult. However, this project was very fun and taught us that factors in an animation are going to change depending on the context and content of it.

Haiku

This project tested our abilities to create a setting and animate it based on a piece of text we created ourselves. This project allowed us a lot of room for creativity and it was very fun! There were’t many limits and it could’ve been as long as we wanted depending on our haiku. It tested our abilities to create an appropriate setting and create an animation that fit the image. This helped to improve my abilities to create a story in a little amount of time and show off my own art style!

Kinetic Typography- What Teachers Make

This is a project for Digital Animation, where we illustrated the basics of kinetic typography that we learned. There are some flaws, but I think I learned a lot from this project. I learned timing, spacing, and movement. I think with more time, I could produce something better, but this is pretty good for the amount of time put into it. We got to use After Effects for the first time too and it was not easy, adjusting. I think After Effects is a lot better for making things seem more dimensional and I hope we learn/ work with it more!

Brick Drop

This video is the second animated project that we worked on. This project allowed us to work on creating an anticipation in our animation through visual and audio effects. This was very fun to work on though it took a while. The most difficult part of this project for me was keeping the brick a consistent size. I also had trouble switching layers through out the whole process. I kept drawing in the wrong layer and having to go back to fix it. Overall, this project helped me to improve a lot and be very productive.
